Cartoons-and-Memes

A collection of Joe’s cartoons and posters many with a theological bent or just having fun with my Facebook friends.  If you’re not into theology, the Bible, jokes or Jesus and his followers, turn back now!

CARTOONS

Somewhere around 2010 Joe discovered a cartoon creation site called PIXTON. The website was built on the Adobe Flash platform. Thousands of folks joined from all over the world and a community was formed. Unfortunately in 2021 Adobe chose to no longer support their Flash program and the site collapsed into a very primitive format. Little did we know that in a few years AI would come along and change everything. Below are the major works Joe accomplished over that 10 year period.

A collection of Facebook posts I made over a period of time.  When looking back they appeared like a diary or DayTimer story. enjoy

In my adult Sunday School Class the topic of Exegesis came up so I decided to do an exercise on a set of cartoons I had done earlier.  Their original form are titled “101 Time” (next).

I had become aware of one Hundred and One times the New Testament writers had warned of something happening soon to the original hearers. In my youth the preachers would use many of these quotes to warn us kids of what soon was going to happen to us. The “Cold War” was on and it seemed like dangerous times.

In 2017 a Facebook group read through the Bible. I was the groups cartoonist, taking the daily reading and creating art. Here are some of my best works

Yeah I know, you’ve been seeing spaceships and alien craft in Ezekiel all your life.  Once had the discussion with a group wondering if UFOs are mentioned in the Bible. Here is one of the books I like the best portraying the whole book (every chapter) as an alien encounter, enjoy.

Which one of the 4 Views of Revelation do you like the best?  Yeah, whoever was taught there was more than one way to take Revelation? Here I’ve tried to show each view with equal time.  You can tell each view from the costume I’ve put on the characters. Good luck!

A classic story down through the ages, rich dude, peasant girl or sometimes the opposite. (modern day examples: Princess Bride and Shrek) Then there’s “The Notebook” same story except roles of characters reversed. Lets see if the Bible verses match the story line. Knowing the ancient idioms really opens the story up… if you get my gist.

When reading Genesis chronologically half way through you’re presented with Job. Every book I wanted to use a different technique than the last so here I attempted an adult colouring book. There’s lots of twists and turns and  good luck with a steady hand. No need to stick with just primary colours.

PART 1 Exodus Chapter 1 to 12
So Exodus starts off pretty much like a Sunday School flannel graph but a little bit in gets a little gruesome. Sorry about that!

PART 2 Exodus Chapter 13 to 22 and Deut. 25
Herman and Nudix say it’s “not exactly” but you will soon find out it’s absolutely “NOT FOR KIDS”!

PART 3 Exodus 23 to 40
Various laws and commands especially the big 10. Death and dancing but mostly they just got on with things.

“Just go and uncover his feet, he’ll know what to do”. They probably don’t call their kid “Oh-Bed” for nothing.  Yeah I know, he became the father of Jessie and Grandpa of King David.

This is probably one of the most cynical books in the whole world. Sure chapter 3 starts off like a Door’s song but quickly goes to unbelief. I enjoy the comedians expressions, how ’bout you?

We used to play Snakes and Ladders when we were kids. The game taught morals and many sounded like they were right out of Proverbs. Here’s a cartoonists approach to some of those snakes and ladders.

Yeah I know, you thought Exodus was pretty bad, But wait till you get to Judges, the whole thing goes down hill real fast. Surprise, it gets even worse by the time you get into Kings!

Challenge: Take the worst kings in Hebrew History and make them into sitcoms. Probably shouldn’t be done but I did it anyways. Even I am surprised by the “dark humour” – are you?
